The Chicago Malayalee Association (CMA), one of the oldest and most vibrant Malayalee organizations in the United States, made history by celebrating Thanksgiving Day in Kerala for the first time on June 12, 2025. The event was held at Ashraya Sanketham, a charitable institution located in Kalayapuram, Kottarakkara.
The program was formally inaugurated by the Honorable Finance Minister of Kerala, Shri K. N. Balagopal, who praised CMA’s thoughtful initiative to bring the spirit of Thanksgiving and giving back to their home state. As part of the program, the first charity cash award from the CMA Thanksgiving Fund was presented to Ashraya Sanketham, symbolizing the beginning of a new tradition of compassion-driven contributions.
Under the leadership of CMA President Jessy Rincy, the event featured a charity lunch, cultural interactions, and the distribution of essential supplies to the residents of Ashraya. It was a heartfelt celebration of gratitude and service.
Founded in 1972, the Chicago Malayalee Association continues to uphold its mission of uniting the diaspora through cultural, educational, and humanitarian efforts. This Thanksgiving celebration in Kerala stands as a shining example of social responsibility and reconnection with roots — inspiring Pravasi communities everywhere.
